My 2021 Reading Bracket

In 2021, I read 70 books. Fiction, nonfiction, romance, fantasy, etc. I aim to read a variety of different genres and styles year after year, and of course there’s always books I like more than others. When I found this 2021 reading bracket on Instagram, I knew I had to fill it out.

Here’s my chart, which I’ll explain below:

Prior to entering my data, I pretty much knew which books would make it to the end. You know, the books that I’d found unforgettable, the ones I hadn’t been able to mentally let go of no matter how far back in 2021 I’d read them. Even then, filling out the form was a lot of fun!

So, for each month, I went through my goodreads history and figured out first which books I’d read each month, and then if I’d read more than one I had to determine which was my favorite read of the month. Some months this was an easy choice, and others it took a bit more consideration.

Then, after entering in my favorites from each month I began working my way through the bracket and determining which one I had liked more — which for my tastes is often the one with the most staying power, the ones that are harder to forget — and entered those into the chart.

The final two!

My final two books being Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir is absolutely no surprise to me. They were both phenomenal, albeit very different, reading experiences. They’re the kind of novel that I dream of reading again for the first time, if only that were possible.

Anyway, there’s my chart. If you’d like to fill out one for yourself, the Instagram user who created the bracket is @bookswithbuzzi and you may be able to download the chart for yourself there. (PS: hopefully they make a 2022 version also — I’d love to do this again.)
